PROJECT OUTLINE: Watch Stand (joints) Y9

Project Outline
This project provides an opportunity for year 9 students to do some product analysis and dissemination. They also learn about ergonomics and produce a product from a more open brief. Each design has to include a joint or two. It’s a good chance for students to use different materials.
As well as many of the standard tasks this project includes: researching watch design and how people can use them as bedside clocks, product dissemination task looking at material choices features and ergonomics.

Resources and Practical Tips (per student)
General workshop tools and off-cuts of all wood. To ensure students have a wood joint and you have more control it is useful to give each students a piece pine 300x45x12mm. Card for modelling of stands and watches. Scissors and craft knives. Students will produce different outcomes so have lots of off-cuts other materials. Sometimes students need to add/make hooks etc, so have a selection of screws, bolts and hinges available. Different finishes are needed for this project so have a selection available.
