PROJECT OUTLINE: Structures (teamwork) Y9

Project Outline
This project provides an opportunity for year 9 students to work together. It is useful as an end of year nine project after options have been chosen. It is designed for fun and to help them learn how to get on in a team.
As well as many of the standard tasks this project includes: learning about types of bridges, structure recognition, strengthening structures e.g. gussets and appropriate members etc, structural strength test ( with formula ), learning about team work task e.g. group dynamics and inclusion.

Resources and Practical Tips (per student)
Resources- weights (have a bucket to hang them in, this way they do not scatter all over the place when the structure fails). Card and scissors for gussets. PVA glue and common wood work tools.
Materials- 5 times 10mm or 12mm square section lengths of pine around 400mm long (have some extra). An A4 piece of card and one pot of PVA glue.

Practical note- remind students that the structure must have a specific point to hang the weights from.
