PROJECT OUTLINE:
Injection Mould Board Game Y8

Project Outline
This project introduces quantity production, in particular injection moulding.
The students design a promotional game of their choice to fit a cereal
packet. They design a counter shape and cut it out of a piece of sheet
aluminium. A glue gun is used to inject into the mould.
As well as the standard tasks this project includes: an introduction to
the history of designers for mass production (with questions), comparative
feature analysis of an injection mould machine and glue gun, research
on theme (including a theme board ), oblique and isometric drawing task,
flow chart using correct graphical shapes and tools (including notes on
jigs and moulds).
Resources
& Practical Tips
Abra files or coping saws with metal cutting blades, metal work vices,
hand/machine drills, needle files (although try to guide designs to avoid
them using these. They can get broken too easily). Glue guns. A lubricant
spray to stop glue from bonding mould together (this is an expensive option
as the students over spray- I find that a smear of dispensing soap does
the trick well enough).
Jigs for clamping down the mould layers ready to insert glue (around 3-5
per group). This can be done a number of ways.
The most common is two 6m bolts projecting upwards with two
wing nuts to clamp the mould and inlet plate down (see Jig Designs)
Materials- aluminium strips approximately 100x40x3mm (depending
on supplier), glue sticks (various colours).
