PROJECT OUTLINE:
Casting Project Y9

Project Outline
This project provides an opportunity for year 9 students to do some good
research and reach a good NC level. The skills they gain doing this project
are very useful for GCSE preparation.
As well as many of the standard tasks this project includes: researching
jewellery from other cultures, a unique 3D sketch technique task, casting
theory and metal theory worksheet and time planning for practical e.g.
Gantt chart.
Resources and Practical
Tips (per student)
Resources- brazing equipment or blow torch of some kind,
including ladle and tongues. Means of quickly cooling the pewter casts
e.g. a metal bowl with water. Craft knives/scalpels and safety rules.
Magnets, pins, key rings and necklace chains. Workshop metal cutting and
finishing facilities.
Materials- pewter bars. 60mm square uncoated card (1mm thick).
5mm MDF squares to the same size as card. The students will cut the main
body out of this and detail in the card. You will also need some MDF squares
to sandwich the mould when pouring the pewter (See Mould Construction).
